Project Details:
The project consists of a combination of Expansion and Renovation to the existing Choctaw Tribal Service Building in Hugo, Oklahoma. A portion of the existing building was remodeled for the new ICW office area. This space included a private lobby with easy access to and from the exterior door. The main goals of the expansion were to provide office space needed for the different Tribal Service Departments and include supplemental spaces such as training rooms, breakrooms, communication / data rooms, & copy / mail rooms. A new lobby, including a reception area with bullet resistant glazing and access control for the rest of the office, was added along with a drive up and interior lobby Rental Housing pay-window. Additionally, the ground floor features a Hardened Room, offering safe shelter from storms or possible active shooter situations.
The Roots Dining, Serving, & Kitchen area features a nearly 1800 SF dining area with seating for 50-60 people. The 1,100 SF serving area supplies community members and employees with weekday breakfast and lunch options, which include basic sandwiches, hamburgers, breakfast sandwiches, sides, soup, salad, and grab-n-go options. This space utilizes a Grill Line, Point of Sale stations, Salad & Soup Bar, Grab-n-Go refrigerated units, Drink Station, Coffee Station, and Online Order Pickup area. The 1,800 SF Kitchen area includes a dishwashing station, food prep line, large ice machine, speed racks, CO2 bulk tank, fryer storage area, walk-in freezer, walk-in cooler, and additional kitchen equipment.
The second floor of the expansion was finished out a few months after completion of the ground floor, providing additional office spaces, a breakroom, data room, conference room, and a Mother’s Room.
Architect assisted the Owner with the following:
Artwork selection and placement
Furniture selection for the renovation and expansion spaces
Interior signage locations (to match the existing signage)
Exterior and Site signage (to match the existing site signage)
The floor design on the ground level symbolizes a river, fluidly transitioning between interior and exterior through the pattern continuation in the landscaping. These curves occur at key locations, creating a sense of movement within the space. This movement also notably occurs within the ceiling design of Roots and helps guide users from one area of the building to the next.
